Important update: Deprecation of select models and features (Cohere platform and API)

Dear Valued Customer,

We’re writing to share an important update about changes to our models and features on the Cohere SaaS Platform and API. Effective 15th September, 2025 we’ll be deprecating select models and features that have reached their end-of-life to streamline our offerings and solutions. These changes reflect our focus on innovation and ensuring you have access to the best-performing tools available.

Models that will be deprecated:

command-light (legacy) - Generative | Documentation
command (legacy) - Generative | Documentation
command-r (command-r-03-2024) - Chat | Documentation
command-r-plus (command-r-04-2024) - Chat | Documentation
summarize - Summarize | Migration guide

Alternatives for Deprecated Models: command-r-08-2024, command-r-plus-08-2024, command-a-03-2025 (Best model across domains)

Model Fine-Tuning:

As part of this transition, we’re also retiring our fine-tuning capabilities across the platform, including both the Dashboard UI and API for all models and features. All models that were fine-tuned on the cohere platform will be disabled as part of this deprecation. Datasets used for finetuning will be available for users to download.
