We are excited to announce the
launch of North Mini Code, Cohere's first agentic coding model. Available under an Apache 2.0 license, North Mini Code is small, efficient, and open source so developers can deploy and build on their terms.
Key highlights of the model:
- Efficient: North Mini Code is a 30B model operating on just 3B active parameters, and in internal testing achieved up to 2.8x higher output throughput than Devstral Small 2 under identical concurrency levels and hardware configurations
- Open-source: It is released under an Apache 2.0 license and is available on Hugging Face, Model Vault, and through a Cohere API key
- Sovereign: The model is designed for security-focused and cost-sensitive engineering teams, providing a sovereign solution that can run on-prem or locally
- Agentic: North Mini Code is built for practical agentic workflows, including sub-agent SOTA orchestration, generating tests, and API migrations
