Hello vv,
Starting June 16, 2026, the default configuration for resource-based Commitment Use Discount (CUD) sharing will change from disabled to enabled. This update is designed to maximize savings and reduce underused CUDs across your resources.
What you need to know
Key changes:
- New billing accounts: All new billing accounts created on or after June 16, 2026 will have CUD sharing enabled by default.
- Existing billing accounts (no active resource-based CUDs): Accounts that do not have active resource-based CUDs as of June 16, 2026, will have their default CUD sharing setting updated to enabled.
- Existing billing accounts (with active resource-based CUDs): If you have at least one active resource-based CUD on your billing account at the time of the change, your current settings will remain unchanged.
- Flexible management: You can enable or disable CUD sharing for your billing account at any time using the self-serve toggle in the Google Cloud Billing console.
Potential impact:
This change is designed to be value-additive. With sharing enabled, any resource-based commitments you purchase can be applied to eligible resources in any project linked to your billing account, rather than being restricted to a single project. This helps prevent "stranded" discounts and maximizes your total savings.
What you need to do
Action advised:
No immediate action is required to receive this benefit.
However, if you prefer to keep your discounts isolated to a specific project, you may use the new self-serve toggle in the Google Cloud Billing console to disable sharing at any time.
Timelines:
The default update will take effect on June 16, 2026. You will have access to the self-serve management tools in the Google Cloud Billing console prior to this date to adjust your preferences.
Impacted customers/accounts:
This change impacts new billing accounts and existing accounts without active resource-based CUDs.
Please refer to the attachment below (CSV file) for a list of the projects.
