Live Search API deprecation and Transition to Agent Tools API

Dear xAI Developers,

The Live Search feature will be removed from the xAI API on January 12, 2026.
After that date, any requests still using Live Search will return a 410 Gone error.

We’ve consolidated all real-time search and tooling into the newly released Agent Tools API — the more capable, and officially supported replacement.

Why migrate?
Powered by models like grok-4-1-fast, the Agent Tools API gives you:

  • Fully agentic search with automatic follow-ups and iterative reasoning
  • Multimodal understanding (images, videos, etc.)
  • Search through your own internal documents
  • Third-party tools via remote MCP servers
  • Seamless mixing of client-side and server-side tools

Action required
Update your integrations before January 12, 2026. For more information on how to use the Agent Tools API, check out the documentation:
